Resident MMI Members
Resident MMI Members are the MMI members whose primary appointment and primary laboratory space is within the MMI facilities. In the promotion of creativity and excellence, Resident MMI Members may participate in a wide range of external activities related to their scholarly interests, that can advance the search for knowledge, bring fresh insights into MMI, and further the MMI's broad interest in serving society. Resident MMI members should conduct outside professional pursuits in ways that respect their responsibilities to their home institution. Therefore, Resident MMI members may have joint and Adjunct appointments in other research and academic institutions, with no more than 20% of their time and effort. Intellectual property generated by the Resident MMI Members will belong to the inventor and MMI, as specified in the MMI operating handbook.
Resident Member Appointments at the MMI are at several levels, depending on productivity and experience. The duration of appointment is for a 3-year period and renewable. Levels include:
• Senior Investigator
• Associate Investigator
• Assistant Investigator

May include members who are not part of academic faculty but serve as Core Directors, Scientists/Senior Scientists.

Resident MMI Fellows
MMI Fellows are early career investigators with principal investigator (PI) status, who are not considered postdocs, or faculty. Fellows receive full support to establish their independent research laboratory and are expected to become self-sustaining and self-funded within a few years, by attracting federal or private funds. MMI provides laboratory space, office, salary and research expenses, in addition to access to all available MMI resources. MMI Fellows are expected to collaboratively develop their own research under the mentorship of one or several members of MMI and/or established investigators from MMI-affiliated institutions. Intellectual property generated by resident MMI Fellows will belong to the inventor and MMI, as specified in the MMI operating handbook.

Non-Resident Affiliated Members
Non-Resident Affiliated Members are the MMI members whose primary appointment is at another institution, and who interact in a significant way with the MMI. The duration of appointment is 3 years and renewable. Depending on their contributions, these individuals may receive grants from the MMI. These may include partial salary support for the investigator, commensurate with the existing salary at their primary institution and their efforts at the MMI. In addition to salary, support for her/his laboratory, indirect costs may also be provided. Intellectual property rights of projects funded by MMI will belong to MMI according to the percent funded effort of the inventor.
• Senior Investigator
• Associate Investigator
• Assistant Investigator

In order to promote science and education in the service of society, and to educate and train the next generation of scientists and educators, the MMI continues to partner with leading researchers, research and academic institutions and private institutions aligned with MMI's mission and objectives.

Among our partner institutions are now the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden, the International Vaccine Institute, Seoul, Korea, which has 35 countries and the World Health Organization (WHO) as signatories to its Establishment Agreement. Georgian National Academy of Sciences, in Georgia, Victor Babes National Institute of Pathology, the oldest and one of the most prestigious medical research institute in Romania, Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the most important medical school in Romania and the Joint Clinical Research Center in Uganda, a premier HIV/AIDS research and clinical trial center in Africa.

The MMI is now registered with the National Institute of Health (NIH), including with the Dun & Bradstreet, System for Award Management (SAM), Grants.gov.

We aim to establish prosperous collaborations with industry to develop and accelerate the translation of our discoveries into patents, publications and new exciting ventures.
